Electric Farm established in 1972 has been at the for front of new technologies for over 30 years.  The business originally was one of the first commercial "Plant Tissue Culture" facilities in the US  as that was an emerging new technology at the time.  As computer technology developed Electric Farm became involved first with the Amiga platform and later the IBM platform developing software solutions for this rapidly developing new hardware.  During the 1980 we wrote numerous pieces of image processing software for the Amiga as IBM was still CGA at the time and not capable of doing much in the way of image processing.  In the early 1990's as the demise of the Amiga became obvious we switched our development effort to the IBM-MS platform developing several small business applications. Later we again became involved with developing graphic oriented software developing one of the first paint programs, Gpaint, for the IBM-MS platform.  In 1992 we initiated development of the first Synoptic Plant Identifier for doing botanical identification on a computer and published the North Eastern Fern Identifier in 1997.  At the same time we developed many small business application including the first portable software for doing Presale Home Inspections, and many small business bookeping systems.  During the late 1990's it became obvious that the computer was going to be used increasingly as a multi-media device for entertainment and we developed software for organizing and playback of multi-media.  In 2002 the NYS education Department wanted to re-write the NE fern program to make it compatible with the new developments in hardware which had occurred since the original publication.  In order to get the best possible compatibility with the progression of hardware and the Windows operating systems we wrote the new program in C#  which was our first foray into this new programming language.  Since that time we have developed hundreds of programs in the C# language to do a variety of computer tasks such as image processing, video editing, home entertainment center operation, business book keeping,  and increasingly use of the internet.  We developed tutorials for the C# programming language and remain intimately involved with the C# development community giving us access to many talented developers with whom we associate and consult.
